8 to 10 Millimeters Is the Number to Remember for Second Holes Why 8 to 10 mm is the sweet spot Second and third piercings sit close together and close ...
Second and third piercings sit close together and close to the top of your ear, so a huggie in the 8 to 10 mm range hugs nice and tight without crowding the piercing above it. This is the size we point you to again and again! Small enough to look totally intentional, big enough to still read as a hoop.
And a 10 mm? It can sometimes fit a first hole too, depending on how your ear was pierced. Every ear is a little different, so there's some wiggle room in either direction.
Okay, this is where a lot of the confusion starts, so let's clear it up before you buy! When we list something as an "11 mm huggie," we mean 11 mm from the very top of the earring all the way to the very bottom, measured on the outside.
So the opening your piercing actually sits in is smaller than that outside number. When the inner opening is noticeably smaller than the outside, we'll usually list that measurement too, so you're never left guessing.
That's exactly why an 8 to 10 mm outside measurement lands so nicely on a second hole! The part that goes through your ear stays snug and low-profile.
A second-hole huggie you can actually sleep in comes down to two things: it's lightweight, and there's no poke. That's the whole recipe! Our huggies clasp with no post sticking out once they're closed, which is exactly what you want sitting against your head at night.
We built the Hey June huggie line around pieces you can shower in, swim in, and sleep in without ever thinking about them. Gold-filled handles all of that so much better than gold-plated. It stays put through a normal week without much fuss from you.
Every so often a huggie clasp loosens up. It happens, it's an easy fix, and it's totally not a defect! The little post that clicks into the latch can be nudged.
Clasping too tight? Push the post down just a touch. Feeling loose?
Push it up a touch. A little pressure, click it back into place, and girl, it's magic again.
Because ears vary so much, sometimes the size that looks perfect on paper isn't quite right on your ear, and that's so normal! We keep a 30-day return window open for exactly this reason. So you can find the size that fits your second hole the way you actually want it to.
Start with 8 to 10 mm and you're already most of the way there.
